The Department of Environmental Supervision Identified 818 Violations during the Hunting Season

During the hunting season, the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified 818 violations.

Within five months from the opening of the hunting season from August 23, 2025, to January 23, 2026 employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision identified 818 violations.

The majority of the violations involved hunting using prohibited weapons, methods, or means. Eight cases related to illegal hunting contained elements of a criminal offense, and the relevant case materials were forwarded to the competent authorities for further response.

Criminal offenses were detected in the regions of Kakheti, Imereti, and Mtskheta-Mtianeti. In the municipalities of Telavi, Kvareli, Dusheti, and Tianeti, offenders illegally hunted three Caucasian brown bears, two chamois, and one roe deer — all species protected under the Red List. In the municipalities of Samtredia and Tskaltubo, offenders were found to have illegally obtained 11 specimens of wild birds.

Within five months of the opening of the hunting season, environmental patrolling and urgent response staff seized 595 illegal devices — bird attracting sound devices.

The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision carry out continuous 24-hour patrols across the country to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of poaching and other environmental violations. In addition, immediate response is provided to every report received through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153).
