A downward trend in cases of illegal forest use has been observed over the past five years
Employees of the Kvemo Kartli Regional Office of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have uncovered a case of illegal forest use in Gardabani Municipality.
In the village of Martkopi, on the premises of a registered sawmill, the offender had stored 10 unmarked round pine logs and 0.5 cubic meters of primary processed wood products (planks)
The sawmill and the timber were sealed. The case materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
Combating illegal forest use remains a top priority for the Department. In 2025, a total of 1,912 cases of illegal forest use were recorded nationwide.
The Environmental Supervision Department’s patrolling and urgent response crews carry out continuous 24-hour monitoring across the country and implement preventive measures to ensure the timely prevention, suppression, and detection of illegal logging and other environmental violations. Immediate response is provided to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).
Within the framework of combating illegal forest use, the Department actively employs modern technologies. Sanctions have also been strengthened. As a result of these measures, a decrease in cases of illegal forest use has been observed in recent years — over the past five years, violations in this area have decreased by 50%.
