The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified a case of illegal extraction of mineral resources in the Kvemo Kartli region.

Officers of the Kvemo Kartli Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have identified a case of illegal extraction of mineral resources in the Marneuli Municipality.

Near the village of Kizilajlo, an individual illegally extracted 335 cubic meters of basalt stone using heavy machinery. The environmental damage caused by the violation amounts to 2,000 GEL.

As the incident contains elements of a criminal offense, the case materials have been forwarded to the relevant authority for further action.

The timely Prevention, detection, and suppression of illegal use of natural resources is a top priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring. In addition, they provide immediate responses to all reports received through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153).

As a result, within the operational area of Kvemo Kartli alone, the Regional Division’s officers identified nearly 100 cases of illegal extraction and violations of mineral resource use license conditions in 2025. The Department of Environmental Supervision has been overseeing compliance with mineral resource use licenses since June 2025.
