Employees of the Western Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have identified cases of illegal logging in the Imereti region as part of efforts to combat illegal forest use.
The violations were detected in the state forest near the village of Gedsamania in the Kharagauli municipality. Eleven round logs of chestnut species listed in the Red List were seized from the location and transported to the relevant National Forestry Agency facility.
The environmental damage resulting from the violations amounts to over 2,100 GEL. The case materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
The Environmental Supervision Department’s patrolling and urgent response crews carry out continuous 24-hour monitoring across the country and implement preventive measures to ensure the timely prevention, suppression, and detection of illegal logging and other environmental violations. Immediate response is provided to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).
