The Department of Environmental Supervision has initiated proceedings regarding a case of Black Sea pollution
Based on information circulated on social media, the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has initiated administrative proceedings concerning a case of Black Sea pollution.
Immediately after the video material was circulated, officers from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Office of the Department arrived in the city of Poti, at the territory of the South Mole pier.
During the inspection, it was determined that a fish and seafood processing company was unloading fish, caught under the appropriate license, from seine boats into specialized vehicles at the pier. During this process, the discharge of used/blood-contaminated water from land into the marine area was recorded.
An inspection report has been drawn up. Appropriate action will be taken following the completion of the case proceedings.
