The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified an illegal sawmill in Tbilisi
Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified a violation in Tbilisi, in the area surrounding Gldani Great Lake.
As a result of the inspection, it was determined that the citizen had installed an unregistered band-type sawmill in the yard of a residential house. On the same territory, more than 2 cubic meters of primary processed wood (planks) of pine and Red List-protected oak species, as well as round timber, were found.
As the case contains elements of a criminal offense, the materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action.
The protection of natural resources is a top priority for the Department. Crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision patrol nationwide 24 hours a day to promptly prevent, detect, and address illegal logging and other environmental violations. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).
