The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified cases of illegal logging in Adjara
Employees of the Adjara and Guria Regional Offices of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have identified violations in Khulo and Shuakhevi municipalities as part of efforts to combat illegal logging.
In Khulo, as well as in the villages of Okroashvili and Gogniauri, 42 illegally harvested coniferous round timber logs have been seized.
The case contains elements of a criminal offense, and the materials have been forwarded to the relevant authority for further legal action.
Combating illegal forest use remains a top priority for the Department. Staff of the Department’s regional offices focus on combating illegal logging during environmental state control. Modern technologies are actively employed to prevent poaching and ensure strict oversight. As a result, last year alone, nearly 400 cases of illegal logging were recorded across the operational areas of Adjara and Guria.
