The Department of Environmental Supervision implemented preventive measures across the country within the framework of combating poaching
The Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental
Protection and Agriculture, within the framework of combating poaching,
implemented a number of preventive measures across the country.
Combating poaching remains a top priority for the Department of
Environmental Supervision. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental
Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide. In addition, they
provide immediate responses to all reports received through the Ministry of
Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153). In parallel,
preventive measures are carried out particularly in locations where poaching
incidents have been relatively frequent in recent years.
In 2026, preventive measures were carried out by the staff of the regional
divisions of Adjara and Guria, Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti, Shida Kartli, and
Mtskheta–Mtianeti on the following rivers: Chorokhi, Tarchena, Enguri, Chkhoushi, Munchia, Khobistsqali, and
Mtkvari, as well as on Lake Grigoleti, Lake Poti, and Lake Bazaleti, and at the
Sioni and Zhinvali reservoirs.
Preventive measures were also carried out by the Environmental Patrol and
Rapid Response staff at the Tbilisi Sea.
As a result of the measures, a total of more than 2,060 meters of gillnets
and up to 60 fish traps were seized.
Fish entangled in the traps and nets were released back into their natural
habitat by the staff of the Department of Environmental Supervision.
