The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified cases of illegal logging in Samegrelo
Employees of the Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have identified two cases of illegal logging.
In the village of Potskho, Senaki Municipality, a citizen had placed 37 units of unmarked round timber (logs) of various species in their household yard.
A second case of illegal logging was also recorded in the village of Potskho.
in total, 62 units of illegally harvested logs of various species have been seized.
Combating illegal forest use is a top priority for the Department. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of environmental violations. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).
In the first three months of the current year, more than 90 cases of illegal forest use were identified by employees of the Regional Division within the Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti operational area alone.
