In order to improve ambient air quality and minimize pollution from the transport sector, the Department’s inspectors carry out daily monitoring of emissions from motor vehicles operating on roads in four cities across the country. The crews are equipped with appropriate measuring instruments, and staff undergo periodic retraining. Department employees now have the capacity to inspect more vehicles at a greater number of locations. As a result, monitoring has become more extensive and effective - In the first four months of the current year, the Department’s employees identified 2,891 cases of non-compliance with established vehicle emission standards.
