The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified cases of illegal logging in Samegrelo

Employees of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified cases of illegal logging in the municipalities of Tsalenjikha and Zugdidi.

In the village of Nakipu, 12 unmarked round logs were identified in a citizen’s household yard.

In the village of Darcheli, a citizen illegally cut down 16 plane trees and 2 alder trees, from which 29 logs were produced. The fact contains signs of a criminal offense, and the case materials have been forwarded to the relevant agency for further response.

In total, 41 round logs were seized from the areas.

The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of environmental violations. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153).

As part of efforts to combat illegal forest use, one of the Department’s main objectives is to minimize illegal logging nationwide. As a result of implemented and ongoing measures, a decrease in the number of illegal forest use cases has been observed in recent years in almost all regions, including Samegrelo.
