Employees of the Adjara and Guria Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified a violation in the village of Zomleti, Chokhatauri Municipality.
The citizen had illegally installed band-saw and circular-saw equipment in the yard of a private residential property.
From the site, inspectors seized 15 illegally harvested round logs of various tree species, as well as approximately 1 cubic meter of primary wood-processing products .
The case contains elements of a criminal offence, and the materials have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action.
In the current year, employees of the Regional Division of the Adjara and Guria regions have identified 10 illegal sawmills within their operational area.
Combating illegal forest use is a top priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153). Within the framework of combating illegal forest use, it is particularly important to minimize the number of unregistered sawmills. The Department actively uses modern technological tools in practice. Legislation has also been tightened. As a result, a downward trend in illegal forest use has been observed in recent years.
