The Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture hosted young people as part of the activities organized to mark World Environment Day

Representatives and students of the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, Natural Sciences and Technologies of the Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University visited the Kakheti Regional Division Office of the Department of Environmental Supervision in Telavi.

Head of the Regional Division, Ucha Solomnishvili, introduced the young visitors to the technological equipment used by the Department in carrying out state environmental control. These include drones, camera traps, night-vision binoculars, as well as instruments for measuring noise levels and airborne particulate matter.

Deputy Head of the Department’s Administration, Tariel Iremadze, delivered a presentation to the students on the Department’s activities, its role in environmental protection, the legal framework and the priority directions of environmental policy.

The meeting was held in a question-and-answer format. Professors and students raised various thematic issues of interest. Particular interest was expressed in information regarding the Department’s strengthening process, under which, across the country, including in the Kakheti region, regional divisions will be expanded with additional units and, accordingly, new offices. This is of key importance for ensuring even faster and more effective implementation of environmental control.

World Environment Day has been observed in various countries around the world since 1973, with the aim of raising public awareness and promoting environmental responsibility. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture marks World Environment Day annually. In 2026, events dedicated to this day, organized by the Ministry’s agencies, were held across different regions of the country during the week of June 1–5, and on June 5, as part of World Environment Day, the opening event of the project for Georgia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) on climate change will also take place, while a variety of educational and recreational activities will be held at Dedaena Park and within the framework of the “Education for a Green Future” project, outstanding teachers will be awarded.
