The Department of Environmental Supervision has identified a case of illegal timber transportation in the Samegrelo
Employees of the Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti Regional Division of the Environmental Supervision Department under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have identified a case of illegal timber transportation in the Samegrelo.
A citizen in the municipality of Tsalenjikha was transporting a primary wood-processing product (planks) by motor vehicle without the required documentation, using an already utilized permit.
The motor vehicle and the 20.95 cubic metres of planks loaded onto it were seized and sealed.
The case contains signs of a criminal offence, and the case materials have been forwarded to the relevant authority for further action.
Combating illegal forest use is a priority for the Environmental Supervision Department. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of environmental violations. At the same time, an immediate response is provided to every report received through the Ministry's hotline (153).
