The Department of Environmental Supervision Identified a Case of Pollution of the Tskhaltsitela River and Launched Administrative Proceedings

Based on a video disseminated on social media showing a case of pollution of the Tskhaltsitela River, the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture responded promptly. Following an inspection of the area shown in the video, employees of the Western Regional Division identified the violators.

The inspection established that wastewater generated from the wet processing of stone at operating teshanite stone processing workshops in the village of Orpiri, Tkibuli Municipality, was being discharged into the Tskhaltsitela River.

To determine the extent of the river pollution and the environmental damage caused, employees of the Department collected samples of river water and wastewater, which will be sent to the relevant laboratory for analysis.

Upon receipt of the laboratory test results and completion of the administrative proceedings, measures prescribed by law will be taken.
