Employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified 787 cases of non-compliance with established vehicle emission standards in four cities from July 1 through July 31, 2026.
A total of 484 violations were identified in Tbilisi, 126 in Kutaisi, 115 in Batumi, and 62 in Rustavi.
Of the total violations identified, 683 were committed by individuals, while in 104 cases, the Department’s employees fined legal entities.
It is noteworthy that 469 violations were committed by drivers/owners of passenger cars, 299 by drivers/owners of minibuses, and 19 by drivers/owners of trucks.
In order to improve ambient air quality and minimize pollution from the transport sector, the Department’s inspectors carry out daily monitoring of emissions from motor vehicles operating on roads in four cities across the country. The crews are equipped with appropriate measuring instruments, and staff undergo periodic retraining. Department employees now have the capacity to inspect more vehicles at a greater number of locations. As a result, vehicle emission control has become more comprehensive and effective. In the first seven months of this year, employees of the Department identified 5,362 cases of non-compliance with established vehicle emission standards.
