The Department of Environmental Supervision Identified Illegal Forest Use in Adjara
The Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified a case of illegal logging and transportation of timber in the Khulo Municipality.
A resident of the village of Gelauri had 22 unmarked coniferous round logs stored in the basement of his residential house. As the case contains signs of a criminal offense, the relevant materials were forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further action.
Combating illegal forest use remains a top priority for the Department. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of environmental violations. Immediate action is taken in response to every report received through the Ministry’s hotline (153). As part of its efforts to combat poaching, the Department of Environmental Supervision actively utilizes modern technologies.
Between January and August 2026, a total of 265 cases of illegal forest use were identified in Adjara. Of these, 212 cases involved the illegal harvesting and transportation of timber, while 53 were related to violations of technical regulations and illegal activities by sawmills. During the same period, 9 illegal sawmills were identified in Adjara.
