The Department of Environmental Supervision Identified a Case of Poaching in Kakheti
Employees of the Kakheti Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified a case of poaching in Kvareli Municipality.
The individual was engaged in fishing in the riverbed of the Bursi River, near the village of Gavazi, at the confluence with the Alazani River, using a prohibited fishing method - an electric fishing device.
The offender was found in possession of up to 10 kilograms of illegally caught fish of the Khramuli species.
The incident contains elements of a criminal offense, and the relevant materials were forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further response.
Combating poaching remains a top priority for the Environmental Supervision Department. The patrol crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision conduct continuous 24-hour monitoring nationwide to ensure the timely prevention, detection, and suppression of illegal fishing, hunting, and other environmental violations. In addition, they provide immediate responses to all reports received through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153).
As part of efforts to combat poaching, the employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision identified 412 cases of violations of fishing regulations and illegal fishing during the first eight months of 2026. Of these, 213 cases contained elements of a criminal offense.
