Biodiversity Control Service
Tasks of the Biodiversity Control Service:
a) To exercise state control in the field of biodiversity, including control over compliance with the conditions of general forest use licenses, special timber harvesting licenses, special hunting farm licenses, licenses for the use of wildlife objects and fishing licenses, as well as licenses for the collection of fir cones for export purposes and snowdrop bulbs and/or cyclamen tubers included in the Appendices to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); to exercise state control over illegal trade in species included in the Appendices to CITES, their parts or derivatives, illegal export, import, re-export or introduction from the sea of such species, parts or derivatives, as well as in the field of the use of living genetically modified organisms and the use of timber and non-timber resources;
b) To prepare methodological and guidance documents in the field of state biodiversity control;
c) Within the scope of its competence, to ensure the review of applications, complaints and letters and/or participate in their review;
d) Within the scope of its competence, to review reports submitted by holders of licenses for the use of natural resources regarding compliance with license conditions;
e) Within the scope of its competence, to prevent, detect and suppress cases of illegal forest use, illegal use of wildlife objects and non-timber plant species, illegal use of living genetically modified organisms, and illegal use of timber plant products;
f) At the end of each calendar year, to submit a report to the Head of the Department on the activities carried out;
g) To perform other tasks provided for by the legislation of Georgia within the scope of its competence.
